This Week
Meaningful community
Solitary confinement is used as a punishment for a reason. Research has linked it to extreme negative effects. This doesn’t mean that ever being alone is bad, but God created us with a yearning and need for community. God’s Word in Ecclesiastes 4:7-12 gives us insight on the benefits of relationship. Learn four of them by worshiping with us this weekend. Join us Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Adult choir returns September 20
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays in the Soul Café to sing for worship on:
- Sunday, October 1 (rehearsals will be September 20 & 27).
- Sunday, October 29 (rehearsals will be October 18 & 25).
High school-aged and older are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.
Milestones
Brian Zimdars and Kayla Voight were married last Saturday in Milwaukee. We’ve seen Kayla often as Brian’s guest, but now that she’ll be living in Middleton we look forward to seeing her more often!
Robb and Paula Maxwell welcomed baby Chloe on Saturday, August 19. She arrived early and at a tiny weight, but she’s been growing ever since. She remains in intensive care, likely for another couple weeks. We pray for her to continue to gain weight and stay healthy.
Ashley and Luis Otto-Mendoza welcomed baby Lushia Marie last Saturday morning. Ashley is home and healthy. Lushia was born with a condition called spina-bifida. Mom, dad, and doctors knew of this for many months so Lushia had a planned surgery on Saturday evening. The surgery went well but she will remain in the hospital for about another week to heal and for the family to develop a continuing care plan.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Grow in Grace
Join your St. Andrew brothers and sisters for Grow in Grace and learn how to live without fear. This four-week series wraps up September 3 at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary. All who attend will be given a copy of the book No Fear Year written by Pastor Mike Novotny. Childcare will be provided in the gym. If you have not been able to attend, no worries. Join us Sunday as we finish strong and learn to live without fear.
College Students
Jesus loves college students and wants your college student to remain close to him. St. Andrew wants that too. You can help us by sending your child’s college address to mark.kjenstad@st-andrew-online.org.
Impact
Paul writes in Ephesians, “Put on the whole armor of God.” That is what you do every time your Bible is open and every time you listen to this podcast. This week it’s part two on Ephesians 6 with Professor Steve Geiger. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”
PowerHour
PowerHour is back! This enriching children’s ministry returns September 1 at 10:30 with the theme Farmers’ Market. The PowerHour staff is anxious to welcome you and your child. Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to attend.
Sunday Children’s Ministries
Musikgarten and Plugged into Jesus return Sunday, September 10. Musikgarten is for children up to age three and Plugged into Jesus serves children 4K – grade 5.
Musikgarten: Please consider how many adults are in the room when deciding if both parents or one parent will attend from your family.
Plugged into Jesus: There will be a registration form to fill out when you bring your child for the first time.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Note of thanks from Friends Network
Friends Network, our Monthly Mission Partner during July, received over $65,000 in donations during a summer campaign, so the first $50,000, including St. Andrew’s donation, was matched by donors.
Dear friends at St. Andrew,
Thank you for your generous donation! Your entire gift was doubled by a generous donor as a part of our matching campaign. We are using these funds to pay for the flights and start-up expenses for our new class of eight new missionaries. They will serve in Vietnam, Thailand, China, and the Philippines. You are a blessing to many people! Thank you again.
Aaron Wakeman
Executive Director, Friends Network
Note of thanks from the Brandts
We would like to thank our St. Andrew family for the thoughts, prayers, and cards following the death of our son, Aaron. We traveled to Oregon/Washington and were able to have a wonderful gathering of his friends and neighbors. At this time, we are not planning a gathering here in Wisconsin. Thank you for your continuing kindness.
Leroy & Glennda Brandt
Lakeside bus driver
Lakeside is looking for two bus drivers for this coming school year (Middleton and Sun Prairie/Eastside routes). Do you know anyone who is retired or looking for part time work, or currently has a flexible schedule and would like to make some additional income? No experience needed, and we will train new drivers in house to obtain the proper license. Contact Eric Haley for more information.
Monthly Mission Partner
Preparing to be a called worker in the public ministry of the gospel is no small task. It involves at least a college degree and often ministerial education at the high school level. St. Andrew offers financial assistance to those who attend one of these schools that prepares them for those callings: Luther Preparatory School in Watertown; Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota; and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. The video below describes the purpose and shows some of the activity of Martin Luther College, where currently two St. Andrew members attend.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Middle School Classroom Assistant needed
Westside Christian School is looking for a part time middle school classroom assistant for the coming school year. Classroom assistants support our lead teachers by preparing materials, working with small groups of students on instructional tasks, and supervising students in study hall. Candidates would ideally have experience working with children in an educational setting, demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with other adults, and a joy for supporting students of all ages. The schedule would ideally be Monday – Friday, from 12:00 – 3:30 PM, but the position can be somewhat flexible. Contact Meredith Pucci for further information and to receive a complete position description. |
