This Week
Unbounded gospel
“Let the gospel predominate” is an old Lutheran preacher’s maxim. As sinners, all of us (not just preachers) have ways of binding up the gospel of Jesus. We hide it. We water it down. We empty it of its comfort. The end of Romans 15 is one part of Scripture that shows us the apostle’s Spirit-led thinking: let the gospel not be bound by time, space, culture, or even human deficiencies. St. Andrew, let’s be intentional about the unbounded gospel. Hear more in worship Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Adult choir resumes September 11
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays in the Soul Café to sing for worship on:
- Sunday, September 29 (rehearsals will be September 11, 18, & 25).
- Sunday, November 3 (rehearsals will be October 16, 23, & 30).
- Sunday, December 15 (rehearsals will be December 4 & 11).
High school-aged and older are welcome to attend. Interested in participating? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.
A/V serving opportunities
Don’t be intimidated by all the electronic equipment—the A/V booth provides many opportunities to not only serve but to learn new skills:
- Livestream Video techs make live streaming possible each week by adjusting cameras and online microphones.
- Audio techs adjust the microphone levels in the sanctuary and mix the music for our livestream.
- Slide techs make it possible to worship from the screens as they advance the slides throughout worship.
Interested in learning more or shadowing in one of these areas? Contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs or Pastor Clinton.
Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Growth Groups
Time is running out to sign up for a St. Andrew fall Growth Group. Don’t miss out! Growth Groups help you in your walk with Jesus and help you help others. Sign up using this link or in the atrium. For more information on St. Andrew Growth Groups, go here. Can’t find a group that works? Speak with Mr. Kjenstad.
Grow in Grace
If you missed the Grow in Grace with Pastor Lyon, you can watch it here. Grow in Grace will return in December. If you have an idea for a topic, speak with Mr. Kjenstad.
Moms’ Group
A group of moms (and their young children) from St. Andrew gets together every other Tuesday morning for friendship and encouragement. September 3 is their next outing. Contact Mark Kjenstad for the details.
College addresses
St. Andrew has a ministry team that keeps in touch with all of our college students. Help this team by sending those addresses to mark.kjenstad@st-andrew-online.org, or fill out an address card on the tall table in the atrium.
Teen Retreat
Abiding Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove is inviting high school students from St. Andrew to Living Waters Bible Camp for a fall retreat on October 19 – 20. Here is more information.
Impact Podcast
Psalm 51 is the focus of Impact again this week. There is so much mercy in this wonderful Psalm of David. That is good news for anyone in need of much mercy. Pastor Clinton helps us understand more of these mercy-filled verses. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
Sunday Morning Children’s Ministries
God’s Word is for all people, and that certainly includes children. St. Andrew has Sunday morning ministries that feed children from birth through high school with God’s precious Word. All of these ministries begin again on September 8 at 9:30 AM. Registration is not necessary.

- Our Brandon, South Dakota, trip has returned. View pictures of all four mission trips in the mission trip gallery.
- View the Rock Hill trip video.
- We are thankful to all our mission trip donors, including those who volunteered their time at Culver’s back in April and those who simply came to eat. That day alone raised $603.71.

St. Andrew prayer team
In 1 Timothy 2:1 Paul writes, “First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people.” Did you know that a St. Andrew team does that for you? Each week anyone can add a prayer request to his/her Connection Card or submit one online. Your prayer team prays for you or your family and friends throughout the week.
Note of gratitude
GiGi’s Playhouse was our Monthly Mission Partner in March. They have sent an acknowledgement card.
Dear St. Andrew congregation,
We are so grateful for the incredibly generous donation you chose to make to our Playhouse community. Your gift is directly impacting over 400 families in the Down syndrome community and allowing us to continue providing our life-changing programming, free of charge for our families. You have made an incredible impact, and we are grateful!
Gratefully,
Kelly Antonson
Monthly Mission Partner
Our August Mission Partner is The Love of Christ Ministry. This is St. Andrew’s compassion ministry to the community. It is one way we help those in physical need. We show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love. We embrace the outstanding debt to love.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
What a day!
The first day of the 2024-25 school year finally arrived! It started early when Brooke Andres, a morning reporter for WMTV 15, arrived to do some interviews. After the interviews were finished, the students and parents kept the excitement going when they arrived. All in all, it was a wonderful day! It is great to see the sun shining outside while the teachers make certain the SON is shining in their classrooms. |
