This Week
Who is worthy?
In the second half of Matthew 10, Jesus states that several actions or inactions make one unworthy of him. Are you in these categories? How do we become worthy of Jesus? He has a lot to say about our fear, our confession, and whom we receive. Let’s gather and learn from Jesus to be his disciples. Worship on Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
Call meeting for Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision
This Thursday, August 28, at 5:30 PM in the gym, we will be calling for a Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision. Joining us in support of the call meeting will be Circuit Pastor Jonathan Bauer (Good News Lutheran Church, Mount Horeb). After a discussion of candidates provided by our district president, the voters of St. Andrew will choose one to whom we will extend a call. While voters are male communicant members, all are invited to participate in the discussion about the ministry needs of St. Andrew and how the candidates might serve them.
50th anniversary celebration | October 26
By God’s grace, St. Andrew has been serving God’s people in Middleton and beyond for half a century. Join us to celebrate God’s work to and through so many individuals. We don’t have all the details yet, but the celebration will include worship (including Thursday night) and fun, food, and St. Andrew history on-site on Sunday afternoon. Save the date!

A Place of Peace
Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project
Construction update
Please continue to use the NEW driveway off Schneider Road and park in the new main parking lot to the south and east. Watch for signs to point you to the correct entrance.
Construction on Parmenter Street continues into September. To get to St. Andrew, it is recommended to take one of these alternate routes:
- From the north, County Road K to Church Road to Schneider Road
- From the south, Airport Road to Capitol View Road to Schneider Road
On evenings after 6:30 and weekends you can use one of the routes above or take Highway 12 to the Parmenter Street Exit #249 and drive around the barriers. This construction project is between Century Avenue and Greenbriar Road. We will keep you updated as we learn more and appreciate your patience.
Confirmation request coming soon
Part of Westside Christian School’s participation in the Wisconsin School Choice Program is an annual audit, so our auditors will be reaching out to confirm A Place of Peace pledge balances as of June 30, 2024, and June 30, 2025, related to our ongoing capital campaign. (The audit covers two years, hence confirmation of the June 2024 balance.)
If you’ve made a pledge, you may receive a confirmation request regarding your balance and anticipated payment schedule as of June 30, 2024 and 2025. You’ll be asked to verify your records and reply directly to our auditor, Whitney Wagner at Reilly, Penner & Benton LLP, via email at [email protected].
Your timely response is greatly appreciated. For questions, feel free to email Financial Administrator Ron Kerr or call 608-219-8149.
A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”
Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Growth Group sign-ups
Fall Growth Groups begin after Labor Day. For more information on St. Andrew Growth Groups and to sign up online, go here. You can also sign up in the atrium. You will notice that some groups are filled up. That can be frustrating. Please add your name to the waiting list and then see if there is another group that will work for you. You can also speak with Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad about future plans for any full Growth Group.
Grow in Grace
We were so blessed to have Dr. Stephen Geiger take us through how the Bible came to be. All three sessions are available here. Grow in Grace will return with Mr. Aaron Wakeman and part two of Mission Possible on December 14.
College addresses
Do you have a college student in the quickly-approaching new school year? St. Andrew has a ministry team that will send notes of encouragement during the school year. Help this team join you to encourage their continued walk with Jesus. Please send addresses to mark.kjenstad@st-andrew-online.org, or grab an address card from the atrium or write it on your Connection Card. If you want to be part of this team and encourage our college students, contact Mr. KJ.
Impact podcast
We heard a little about Jesus’ apostles on Sunday. This week’s Impact episode will teach you more about the first four apostles, including Saint Andrew. Professor Keith Wessel from Martin Luther College takes us back to the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in John 1. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
PowerHour
PowerHour returns on September 5 at 10:15 AM in the St. Andrew gym. This ministry is for parents and their young children, up to age 4. How fitting that our first theme of the year is “The Construction Zone!” Click here for more on PowerHour.
Sunday morning children’s ministries
St. Andrew has something for children of all ages on Sunday mornings. Beginning September 8, the following ministries will be ready to share more Jesus with your children:
Musikgarten | room 104 | 9:20
Plugged into Jesus | 4K – kindergarten | room 102 | 9:20
Plugged into Jesus | grades 1 – 5 | gym | 9:20

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Thanks from Care Net of Dane County
We received a card of gratitude from a local pregnancy center for whom some St. Andrew ladies made blankets for newborns.
Thank you so much for the beautiful handmade blankets made by members of the St. Andrew congregation. Thanks for sharing your story, heart, and generosity. We are so blessed by your partnership.
Best,
Alex (donor services)
Enjoy music but you’re not a musician?
Join the audio team and help make every song and message sound its best. It’s simpler than it looks, and we’ll provide all the training you need to serve with confidence. Contact Pastor Clinton to start serving.
New service role for 10:30 worshipers
If you prefer the late Sunday service and are willing to stick around for a half hour or so afterward, then a new service role is waiting for you. You don’t need any special skills, just some very basic computer competency. Contact Pastor Clinton to learn more.
Monthly Mission Partner
Our September Mission Partner is our Ministerial Education Fund. This is St. Andrew’s effort to ease the financial burden of those attending schools that prepare them for full-time ministry. Please pray for them and all who desire to serve in full-time public ministry roles. Below is the text of a card St. Andrew received earlier this summer:
Thank you so much for the financial support you have provided me to aid in pursuing my degree in elementary education at Martin Luther College (MLC). My first year was truly a blessing, and I can’t believe it has already come and gone. It sounds silly to some, but I am looking forward to going back to school because of the people and how much it enriches my faith. Thank you for helping me work toward this goal and for the countless prayers and blessings you have provided me over the years.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Starting on the right foot
We got the Westside school year started off on the right foot. Students, parents, staff, and teachers were all prepared on Wednesday morning. You could feel the excitement when the doors opened and the flow of students began. There were smiles and laughter all the way down the hallways.
Pastor Clinton led our opening service and reminded us of the journey Jesus took for each of us. Because of that journey, we can celebrate this year under our theme “Let’s Make A Joyful Noise.” What a blessing it is to be able to share God’s grace with a school full of students eager and ready to listen! Please keep our students, staff, and teachers in your prayers. |
