This Sunday

Passing the baton
Olympic runners train for a lifetime to not just run the race, but to pass the baton in a relay. No matter how well you run, it will not go well if you mess up passing the baton. St. Andrew, by God’s grace we have the baton of the Good News of Jesus. It’s exciting and it feels so good. Let’s make sure we do all we can to pass it on to the next generation. Read Psalm 78 this week, or at least verses 1-8, and then gather with other runners to pass the baton this Thursday at 7:00 PM or on Sunday at 8:00 AM or 10:30 AM.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Growth Groups
Now is the time to sign up for a St. Andrew Growth Group. You can do this in the atrium or online.  Please sign up by September 8. If the Growth Group you want to sign up for is full, please try to find another one that works, and also let Mr. KJ know that your first choice filled up. Fall Growth Groups begin the week of September 12. God bless your growing!

Building Dedication
God has given us beautiful new and newly remodeled facilities to use to his glory. Let’s celebrate together. See Service & Outreach for more details about the picnic following 10:30 AM worship.

  • Thursday, August 26, 7:00 PM
  • Sunday, August 29, 8:00 AM & 10:30 AM
  • Sunday, August 29, 11:45 AM: facility tours, picnic lunch, kite flying, etc.

First Group
First Group is an 8-week class that combines video and discussion with Pastor Hunter to review the chief teachings of the bible. If you’re interested in checking out Christianity but have no idea what it is, if you’re a lifelong Christian who wants to know more about St. Andrew, or if you just want a review of the Bible from cover to cover, this is the group for you. The class starts on Sunday, September 12. We will meet from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM every Sunday for 8 weeks. We understand that schedules may mean you want to take the class but will be out of town some of those weekends. We can work with that! Pastor Hunter will be happy to accommodate and work with you privately to review the lessons you missed. Register online or on the tables in the atrium.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Every week Communion resumes
As a response to COVID, about 15 months ago we started serving Communion once a month during worship. Beginning Labor Day weekend, we will once again resume serving Communion every week in worship. There will still be some slight modifications, including individual wine cups only, and wafers will still be in individual containers.

Worship Check-in
Please let us know that you were with us for worship. You can do so on our website or by going here.

Weekend Worship Songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend here. Obviously, ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Impact
You have been adopted into God’s family. Really! How great is that? Listen to Pastor Caleb Klatt share that great news. Find the link here or search “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you find podcasts.

FUEL
FUEL is returning to weekly gatherings after Labor Day. FUEL will meet at 9:30 AM on Sundays. Bible study, discussion on teen topics, and fun games with candy prizes are all being planned. All St. Andrew high school students are invited to join FUEL in 2021.

PowerHour
We are excited to announce the return of PowerHour! PowerHour will be led by Mrs. Ellen Soukup (Preschool Director at Westside Christian) and is for parents/caregivers and their children up to age 3. PowerHour happens the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, beginning September 3, from 10:30 – 11:25 AM in the gymnasium. There will be fun activities, story time, a Bible lesson, and snacks-to-go each week. This is open to parents and children from St. Andrew, Westside Christian, and the community. Contact Mr. Kjenstad with your questions.

Children’s Ministries
St. Andrew Children’s Ministry looks forward to welcoming kids back to in-person sessions with opening day Sunday, September 12. A fun-filled year ahead with games, videos, music, crafts, and Jesus is planned! Children’s Ministries will require masks in compliance with the Dane County order.
Opportunities to serve: greeter or game leader (“Launch”), Bible leader (“Learn”), application activity (“Live”), or support staff. So many options! Reach out today to Jane Dew.

Musikgarten
Babies and toddlers with a caregiver are welcome to this Sunday-morning ministry! Certified Musikgarten leader Karen Hong will teach Jesus through interactive music and rhythm activities. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
This ministry serves kids Pre-K3 – grade 6. Preschool and kindergarten will meet in a self-contained classroom, and grades 1 – 6 will meet in the gym. Individual activity kits will be provided for those students present as well as virtual students (those kids in your world who need Jesus). Register your kids here.

Middle school
Grades 7 – 8 form an independent ministry this year and will meet in a classroom. Bible study, life application, and activities will anchor faith in the hearts of middle school students. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Coffee planning
At the present time we are looking to restart coffee around October 1. We have been busy getting organized for this launch, and more volunteers to make it happen would be welcome. Many people have asked about this, and we know it helps bring us together to connect with each other. We will comply with requirements for public gatherings and respect public health guidance in effect at that time.

Building Dedication
We look forward to seeing you at one of our three Dedication services on August 26 or 29. We still need assistance with the picnic which will follow the 10:30 AM service on August 29. We will be grilling brats, hot dogs, and hamburgers with chips and water, so plan to come and stay for the open house and picnic after worship that day. Kites aloft are in the plans. Thank you to all who volunteered to assist in this celebration.

Do you enjoy Facebook and other social media?
Part of our Service and Outreach ministry mission addresses tracking our connection cards and updating Facebook postings, our website, Instagram, etc. We haven’t given up on print yet, but the world is transitioning to digital media at an ever-increasing pace. Our connection ministry is one part of Service and Outreach, and those who make it happen are among our priceless volunteers. We are looking for someone to assist with this ministry opportunity—could that be you?  Contact Curt Kephart.

The Love of Christ (TLC)
On Sunday in worship, we prayed for the safety director of Kraemer Brothers (our contractor) who was in a very serious car accident as he was driving between job sites. Matt Morley has been on-site here during our building project. Right now, it looks like his recovery will be long and painful. We had a few people ask if there was anything we could do to help the family. If you would like to do something for the family, “get well” and gift cards are recommended. They may also need some temporary assistance in home chores like mowing. Cards can be dropped off at the church with the note “For Matt.”

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

After school program positions
Westside Christian is also planning to hire an Extended Care Lead Teacher. Hours would be 2:45 – 5:30 PM, preferably daily, although we are able to combine this with two people, if necessary. Each day consists of outdoor play, free play in the gym, or an organized group game/activity, distributing snacks, and helping with homework for older students as needed. Email our Preschool Director, Ellen Soukup, if you are interested.
