This Week
Whose plans?
Is God really in charge of all things, or do my choices matter? Or is it 50/50 my choices and God’s choices? 60/40? 80/20? The book of Proverbs addresses the subject of wisdom: the ability to make wise choices. May the Spirit use these words he inspired to guide you in your decisions. Gather with the saints on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM to see God’s guidance.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
A/V serving opportunities
Don’t be intimidated by all the electronic equipment—the A/V booth provides many opportunities to not only serve but to learn new skills:
- Livestream Video techs make live streaming possible each week by adjusting cameras and online microphones.
- Audio techs adjust the microphone levels in the sanctuary and mix the music for our livestream.
- Slide techs make it possible to worship from the screens as they advance the slides throughout worship.
Interested in learning more or shadowing in one of these areas? Contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs or Pastor Clinton.
Adult choir returns September 20
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays in the Soul Café to sing for worship on:
- Sunday, October 1 (rehearsals will be September 20 & 27).
- Sunday, October 29 (rehearsals will be October 18 & 25).
High school-aged and older are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.
Milestones
Layla, Nolan and Leo Figi, children of Lauren and Adam Figi, will be baptized in a private gathering of family on Saturday, August 26. May the Spirit who has worked faith in the hearts of the Figi children through the Word they’ve heard now strengthen and keep them in this faith through his work in Holy Baptism.
Alie and Scott Fanello are celebrating their 25th anniversary this weekend. Thank you, Scott and Alie, for providing special treats between the worship services this Sunday and allowing us to celebrate with you.
We would like to share with everyone that having an incredible church home like St. Andrew is a true blessing! We are extremely grateful for the marriage workshops, Growth Groups, and friendships from our Christian family. These all have played vital roles in keeping us close to God and keeping God in our 25 years of marriage, parenting, and everyday lives. Thank you all for being a part of this blessed journey!

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Fall Growth Groups
Are you ready to join a St. Andrew Growth Group? The fall lineup is set. Sign up in the atrium or online. For more on St. Andrew Growth Groups, click here.
Grow in Grace
Living without fear—doesn’t that sound appealing? God’s Word can get you there. Join your St. Andrew brothers and sisters for Grow in Grace, and learn how to live without fear. This four-week series continues August 27 at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary. All who attend will be given a copy of the book No Fear Year written by Pastor Mike Novotny. Childcare will be provided in the gym. If you have not been able to attend, no worries. Join us Sunday.
College Students
Jesus loves college students and wants your college student to remain close to him. St. Andrew wants that too. We have a team that sends love and encouragement to college students three times a year. You can help us by sending your child’s college address to mark.kjenstad@st-andrew-online.org.
WELS Campus Ministry exists to keep a strong connection between college students and Christ. Check it out.
Impact
Every time you listen to God’s Word you are putting on armor, and that’s a good thing because you have an enemy who schemes to take you out. Listen to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Professor Steve Geiger talk about the well-known chapter 6 of Ephesians. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”
Ministries for Children
Plugged into Jesus and Musikgarten return Sunday, September 10, and PowerHour returns September 1. Stop by the table outside Mr. Kjenstad’s office to learn more about these nurture ministries.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Thanks for painting
Have you noticed the color of the nursery and cry room? Probably not, because it’s no longer mismatched, thanks to the skills of Brad and Chris Hougaard with a paintbrush, roller, and blue tape. We appreciate your time helping make our facility look nice.
Nondriving member in need of rides
If you live in the Lodi area or really enjoy driving, please consider helping a St. Andrew member get to and from worship. She would be very grateful for any assistance, however frequent. Contact Pastor Clinton to help.
Service opportunity | donation deliverer
St. Andrew collects food items for a local pantry on an ongoing basis. We are looking for someone to keep an eye on the donation barrel and periodically run it to the pantry less than a mile from St. Andrew. If interested, contact Pastor Clinton.
Lakeside bus driver
Lakeside is looking for two bus drivers for this coming school year (Middleton and Sun Prairie/Eastside routes). Do you know anyone who is retired or looking for part-time work, or currently has a flexible schedule and would like to make some additional income? No experience needed, and we will train new drivers in house to obtain the proper license. Contact Eric Haley for more information.
August Monthly Mission Partner
The Love of Christ is St. Andrew’s compassion ministry to the community. It is one way we help those in need. This aid can be manpower or financial assistance. Either way, we show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
New school year
Wednesday, August 23, marked the first day of the 2023 – 24 school year for Westside Christian School. We give thanks for the amazing students and their families that we are blessed to serve with for another year of growing more Connected to Jesus. We began the year with Chapel, led by Pastor Clinton, reminding us of the ways we will stay in the Word and grow stronger in faith all year. The theme comes from John 15: 1 – 5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” To God be the glory as we begin another wonderful year of the ministry of Westside Christian School! |
