This Week

Change in the church
Teachers, parents, and even returning students are often surprised by changes that have occurred over the summer. Some examples from the past week: “You got new furniture in the atrium!!” And, “You must have grown six inches over the summer!” And, “You got glasses! I love them.” Those kinds of changes are nothing compared to the changes you see in a person when God the Holy Spirit shows up. Sometimes it’s a slow process, and sometimes everything changes at once. One thing is sure, though: when the Spirit shows up, there is change. Paul encouraged the Roman church by pointing out the changes he noticed. Read Romans 15:14-22. Look for the truth of Paul’s words in your life. May the result be the intention of the Spirit who inspired them: your encouragement.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

A/V serving opportunities
Don’t be intimidated by all the electronic equipment—the A/V booth provides many opportunities to not only serve but to learn new skills:

  • Livestream Video techs make live streaming possible each week by adjusting cameras and online microphones.
  • Audio techs adjust the microphone levels in the sanctuary and mix the music for our livestream.
  • Slide techs make it possible to worship from the screens as they advance the slides throughout worship.

Interested in learning more or shadowing in one of these areas? Contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs or Pastor Clinton.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Growth Groups
The fall lineup of St. Andrew Growth Groups is here! Spend some time looking through your options and then join one. Growth Groups help you, they help you help others, and they help St. Andrew, all to the glory of God. You can sign up using this link or in the atrium. For more information on St. Andrew Growth Groups, go here.

College addresses
Do you have a college student in the quickly approaching new school year? St. Andrew has a ministry team that keeps in touch with all of our college students. Help this team by sending those addresses to mark.kjenstad@st-andrew-online.org, or fill out an address card on the tall table in the atrium.

Moms’ Group
A group of moms (and their young children) from St. Andrew gets together every other Tuesday morning for friendship and encouragement. September 3 is their next outing. Contact Mark Kjenstad for the details.

Impact
David was desperate for God’s mercy when he wrote Psalm 51. Sound familiar? David received God’s mercy. Sound familiar? Pastor Clinton Kreuziger is the guest on Impact (a St. Andrew podcast) this week to highlight some of the classic verses from this beautiful Psalm of David.  You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Sunday Morning Children’s Ministries
God’s Word is for all people, and that certainly includes children. St. Andrew has Sunday morning ministries that feed children from birth through high school with God’s precious Word. All of these ministries begin again on September 8 at 9:30 AM. Registration is not necessary.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Many thanks to our picnic team
God gave us a beautiful day on Sunday to enjoy his blessing of fellowship. It could not have happened without the service of various groups and individuals who set up, arranged, served, cooked, cleaned, hauled, donated supplies, and painted faces. You are a blessing many appreciate.

Service role | Plugged into Jesus team
This children’s ministry for 4K – grade 5 uses God’s powerful and precious Word to lead young children to learn more about our Savior, Jesus. Plugged into Jesus is 9:20 – 10:15 AM on Sundays, September through May. If you would like to join the team as a leader or assistant, please contact Yvonne Onsager or Pastor Clinton.

Notes of gratitude
Sure Foundation Lutheran Church in Brandon, South Dakota, and WayForward Resources, both recent Monthly Mission Partners, have sent notes expressing their thanks for your contributions. Excerpts from each are below:

On behalf of everyone at Sure Foundation, I wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your gift to our church! This will go to help support our building project. Our church is so blessed knowing that we have wonderful people who support us. The location of our worship and the size of our church may look different than a lot of churches, but we get the same opportunity to worship our Lord. Pretty cool! It is our prayer that God would continue to bless your church and grow your faith with the truth of the gospel.

In Christ,
Pastor Craig Wilke

Because of your generous donation of $4,611, more people will be able to find a path to stability.
With your support, WayForward Resources served more than 13,000 people last year—a new record in our 40-year history. Our food pantry is distributing the equivalent of more than 100,000 meals a month. 60% of the households in our food and housing programs have children. 98% of housing stability program participants maintained housing and avoided eviction for six months or longer. Thank you so much for this generous gift! We appreciate your ongoing support.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Executive Director Ellen Carlson and Donor Relations Officer Peggy Halloran

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. Last month’s video is about early childhood education, specifically on how a nearby congregation is utilizing a four-tier program through Martin Luther College.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our August Mission Partner is The Love of Christ Ministry. This is St. Andrew’s compassion ministry to the community. It is one way we help those in physical need. We show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love. We embrace the outstanding debt to love.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Keeping it safe
As another school year approaches, keeping kids safe at school is a topic on many educators’ minds. Westside Christian School makes student and staff safety a priority. Last week we had the opportunity to meet with our Dane County school resource officer, Deputy Jodi Hager. Deputy Hager and her colleagues helped to train the staff on additional safety measures that we can take as a school to ensure the safety of all who come through our doors. After the training, Deputy Hager toured every classroom and open space to make suggestions and gave us useful tips. We are extremely blessed to have someone like Deputy Hager assisting our school. Please keep all the students and staff of Westside in your prayers. Pray that our gracious God watches over all and allows learning and spiritual growth to take place daily!
