This Week
Sight and speech
Jesus’ miracles keep coming in Matthew 9. This time the Son of David gives sight and speech. He also gives these gifts to us, enabling us to see who he is and praise him for it. Read Matthew 9:27-34 and join us for worship Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Highlights
Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
Eternal victory for Glennda
Our sister in Christ Glennda Brandt was called home to glory on August 1. Her funeral is Saturday, August 16. Visitation is 9 – 11 AM with a service at 11 AM and lunch to follow.
New building entrance
This weekend we transition the main entrance one last time to the south end of the building where it will remain for the next year. Please enter the parking lot from the NEW driveway off Schneider Road. You can use any of the available parking in both south lots and along the east side of the parking lot. The new north lot will still be usable from the original driveway, but you will need a building code or key to get in that end of the building. This week only, if you come to the building during the day, please continue to use the north parking lot and gym entrance.

Call meeting for Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision
On Thursday, August 28, at 5:30 PM, we will be calling for a Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision. Joining us in support of the call meeting will be Circuit Pastor Jonathan Bauer (Good News Lutheran Church, Mount Horeb). After a discussion of candidates provided by our District President, the voters of St. Andrew will choose one to whom we will extend a call. While voters are male communicant members, all are invited to participate in the discussion about the ministry needs of St. Andrew and how the candidates might serve them.

A Place of Peace
Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project
Construction update
Construction on Parmenter Street continues. To get to St. Andrew, it is recommended to take one of these alternate routes:
- From the north, County Road K to Church Road to Schneider Road
- From the south, Airport Road to Capitol View Road to Schneider Road
On evenings after 6:30 and weekends you can use one of the routes above or take Highway 12 to the Parmenter Street Exit #249 and drive around the barriers. This construction project is between Century Avenue and Greenbriar Road and will last until October. We will keep you updated as we learn more and appreciate your patience.
A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Growth Group sign-ups
Fall Growth Groups begin after Labor Day. Join a group to help your faith and to give you a wonderful way to help others with their faith. For more information on St. Andrew Growth Groups and to sign up online, go here. You can also sign up in the atrium. If you have already signed up, encourage a friend to join you.
Grow in Grace
Join us on Sunday for part 2 of The Bible: How It Came to Be. Dr. Stephen Geiger, from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, will lead the presentation. He will be joined by Pastor Clinton and Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad. The presentation will get more practical as you learn how God preserved his Word through the copying of the original texts. If you missed part one, you can watch it here. Grow in Grace is 9:30 – 10:15 AM in the sanctuary. Childcare is available. Contact Children’s Ministry Director Emma Nolte to secure a spot for your children.
Impact podcast
“Blessed are the poor in spirit.” That is the first of the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes introduce Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Professor Paul Koelpin from Martin Luther College is here to share insight into these precious words from our Savior. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Thanks, painters!
Although the focus has been on the exterior, things have been happening inside, too. Over the last two weeks, some rooms and hallways in the building got fresh coats of paint due to the brushes of Christine, Dan, Dean, and Kallista. Your service is a blessing, so thank you.
Service opportunity | crafts assistant for Plugged into Jesus
If you enjoy planning arts and crafts, consider serving in our children’s ministry. Plugged Into Jesus is looking for a crafts assistant for four art projects this fall semester. Contact Children’s Ministry Director Emma Nolte if interested.
Service opportunity | outdoor greeters
While we are under construction, we want to make sure our guests (and members) know where to go. You can still join the team to help direct worshipers to parking spaces and to the entrance before worship services. It’s a role you can do whichever service you attend. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.
WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. Last month’s video focuses on WELS Mission Journeys, which connects potential volunteers to mission opportunities throughout the world, such as St. Andrew’s London group last summer.
Monthly Mission Partner
Our August partner is our local assistance fund. This is one way we help those in physical need. We show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love. St. Andrew has helped community members with groceries, gas, utilities, car repairs, children’s Christmas gifts, and more.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Back to school
There is a buzz around campus, and it’s not just the sound of construction equipment. Teachers and staff are preparing for another great school year at Westside Christian School. We have Preschool Orientation on Monday, August 18, 4 – 5 PM, for Pre-K. Also on August 18, from 5 – 7 PM, is Kick-Off Night for kindergarten – grade 8. Students can drop off their school supplies and get organized. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 20. We will begin with an opening chapel service at 8:15 AM. We will be ready to share God’s grace each day to the students and their families. Please keep the students, parents, staff, and teachers in your daily prayers.
Job/Ministry Opportunities
Westside Christian School is in need of an After School Care worker (paid position) for the younger group (age 3 through 2nd grade). The hours are 3:15 – 5:00 each day. If interested, please reach out to Ellen Goetz.
Westside is also in need of several classroom assistants. These are paid positions. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Plath for more information.
Concessions need for sports
Do you love Westside’s athletics program and want to impact our guest and spectator experience? If so, Westside has a volunteer opportunity for you! We are looking for a Concessions Lead for the 2025-26 season (fall – spring sports). The responsibilities include the following:
- purchasing food
- setting prices
- monitoring sales
- keeping the storage organized
- coordinating volunteers using SignUpGenius (or another tool of your choice)
The Concessions Lead does not need to attend every home game. Your responsibility for game days is only to ensure coverage and that the workers know what to do. Please reach out to Athletics Director Jack Murphy if you’d like to learn more. Go Wave! |
