This Sunday

What do I turn to when I feel burnt out, tired, or exhausted?
At one time or another, all of us have felt like that in some way. There are so many things happening to us and around us that cause us to feel stressed and hurt and burdened. When we feel the weight of life and its burdens pressing down on us, we naturally look for something to give us rest and release, at least for a little bit. What is it for me? My career? A relationship? Friends? An addiction? It will look different for each of us, but the truth is, those sources of rest can’t last forever. We need something better. And we have it. This Thursday or Sunday, hear Jesus’ invitation of lasting rest, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Call
Last Sunday, St. Andrew called Pastor Clinton Kreuziger to serve as our Pastor for Service and Outreach. Pastor Kreuziger is a 2015 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and currently serves Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Marietta, Ohio. He and Michelle have four children. Pray for them as they determine where they will serve the mission Jesus has given his Church.

Members of St. Andrew,

I hereby acknowledge having received the call to serve as Pastor of Service and Outreach at St. Andrew. I thank you for the opportunity to contemplate our Savior’s Great Commission and how I fit into that, how St. Andrew fits into that, and how Crown of Life in Marietta fits into that. I welcome your prayers and encouragements during this time of seeking the Holy Spirit’s wisdom in this deliberation. May our gracious and wise God continue to bless both congregations, as well as the whole Christian Church on earth both during and beyond this process.

Together in Christ,
Pastor Clinton Kreuziger

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Thursday worship
Getting in your last-gasp-of-summer weekend away? If weekends take you to the great outdoors, gather with the saints on Thursday to thank the Creator for such beauty and the Savior for the beautiful grace he gives. St. Andrew offers the privilege of Word and sacrament on Thursdays at 7 PM.

Milestones
Lukas Heckmann & Olivia Andress will be married this Friday. We join their family in thanking God for their commitment in Christian marriage, and we pray for his blessing on their life together.

Dave Harman’s mother, Donna, went to be with her Savior last week. May the Lord who brought her to faith and now to himself comfort the family with the Good News of resurrection and reunion. To read her obituary, click here.

Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow in Grace
That rainbow you see after a rain shower is a reason to rejoice in the faithfulness of God. We learn what the rainbow means to Christians in the aftermath of The Flood. Let’s Talk About the Rainbow is our new series for Grow in Grace. This 4-week whole church Bible study leads up to the promise God gave after The Flood. Let’s Talk About The Rainbow continues August 14 at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary.

Week 1 | The reason for The Flood
Week 2 | The ark and its contents
Week 3 | The Flood (with special guest Mr. Mark Bergemann, President of Lutheran Science Institute)
Week 4 | God’s promise to never again use water to destroy the earth

PETT orientation
Parents Equipped To Teach is a ministry of St. Andrew to help parents teach the chief truths of God’s Word to their children and prepare them to receive the Lord’s Supper. Parents may begin the process after their child enters 6th grade. Some families complete the process in one year, some in two, and some in three years or more. Parents, get your questions answered in an orientation session this Sunday, August 14, at 9:30 AM, in Room 107. A Catechism, Connections Workbook, and a three-ring binder of resources will be labeled for you in the room. If you’re not a member of St. Andrew and are interested in this spiritual training for your child, we’d love to help you, too. Questions? Email info@st-andrew-online.org or talk with Pastor Hunter or Mr. Kjenstad.

College addresses
St. Andrew loves to stay connected with our college students. If you are a college student or a mom/dad to one, please send this year’s address to St. Andrew Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad or put it on your Connection Card.

PowerHour
A new year of PowerHour begins September 2! If you have a little one 3 or under, check out this enriching ministry. PowerHour is for children and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. Each week, all of the activity funnels from a fun theme such as “Things That Go,” “Let’s Go Camping,” or “Fun on the Farm.” You’ll have a chance to meet new friends, and your child will learn and have a blast! For a few more details about PowerHour, click here.

Impact
Through Daniel God gives his exiled people hope for a glorious future. That same glorious future awaits you. Listen to Dr. John Boeder from Martin Luther College share hope-filled thoughts from Daniel 2. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Thank you
Dear Members of St. Andrew,

Never in a million years did we think our journey would unfold as it has. Words fail us at a time like this, especially when a simple “thank you” doesn’t seem like enough. Perhaps you sent a card, gave a donation, or volunteered your time to serve—your expressions of love and sympathy continue to comfort and sustain us and will forever be appreciated and remembered. Please accept our donation in Brooks’ memory as a small token of our appreciation.

With love,
The Manzeck Family

Fill the barrel
Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) offers a variety of services to assist people in Middleton and Dane County. MOM was forced to limit some of their services during COVID, but beginning this month they are expanding food pantry hours and visits along with accepting clothing donations. Every fall, MOM collects school supplies which are distributed to kids before school starts. Here is how you can help:

1.  Check the MOM website to see what food donations are needed at this time. Also consider donating gently used clothing to the free clothing center.
2.  Check the MOM back-to-school webpage  to see what school supplies are needed.
3.  Purchase any of the needed items and deposit them in the big barrel in the church/school entryway.
4.  The items will be delivered to MOM by St. Andrew volunteers.

These items are ALWAYS needed: teen clothing, laundry detergent, personal care items.

Thank you for your support of this community partner. Questions can be directed to Nancy Ninman or 608-250-9576.

Childcare needed
A St. Andrew family is in need of short-term in-home childcare for an infant this January – April. If you would like more information, contact Email info@st-andrew-online.org.

August Monthly Mission Partner
Learning is what college is for. In addition to subjects studied, students also learn about other cultures, beliefs, and worldviews. All of that is good, unless it becomes a god and replaces the truth of the true God. Students in college need our prayers and our ministry. Students at UW-Madison have the benefit of Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel and Student Center. It’s a place to study, meet friends, and look at options through the lens of Christian faith. For decades, St. Andrew has partnered with the Chapel in worship, ministries, and with our prayers and financial support. Your offerings to our Monthly Mission Partner will support the ministry of the Chapel. You can check out what they’re doing at wlchapel.org. Better yet, the next time you’re on State Street, turn north at the Chocolate Shoppe, see the Chapel, and stop in for a visit.

Ministry Support

Janitor position
Volunteers fill many, many roles at St. Andrew to carry out this ministry, but some roles we pay people to do. One of those paid positions is a daytime janitor during the school year to refresh bathrooms, do some general cleaning in the gym and sanctuary, etc. This isn’t the regular “heavy lifting” cleaning—we contract with Badger Chemical and Supply for the whole building cleaning after school. For more information about this part-time daytime janitor position, or to get the job description, contact us at [email protected].
