This Sunday

Passion Points of View
For the past six weeks we have gained a fresh appreciation for Jesus’ suffering from the points of view of those who were there. We’ll continue to benefit from those points of view throughout the special opportunities for worship during Holy Week, beginning this weekend with Palm Sunday. Movies and plays aren’t just about the stars. Bit players sometimes play big roles. Someone who appears to play a minor role on Palm Sunday can help us in a major way. We’ll meet him this weekend. Read the account of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday (Luke 19:28-44) and join the people waving palm branches this week on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Bible reading guide
For help with the struggles of life, there is no greater resource than your Bible. The Bible speaks to your needs. However, knowing where to look is a challenge. For help, pick up the Bible reading guide in the atrium.

Impact
Jesus was forsaken by God so you never would be forsaken by God. That is an insight we gain from Psalm 22. Listen to Dr. John Brug, retired seminary professor, share bits of wisdom gained from a lifetime of studying the Psalms. Impact, a St. Andrew podcast, can be found here and wherever you listen to podcasts. Search “Kjenstad Impact.”

Small Talk
Small Talk is back! This St. Andrew podcast has returned with Holy Week episodes. Small Talk is kids sharing the good news about Jesus. Host Rachel Kamin talks with children from St. Andrew. She asks the questions, and the kids take it from there. This week she talks with Sam about the suffering of Jesus. Find Small Talk on the St. Andrew website or wherever you listen to podcasts (search “Kjenstad Impact”).

Resurrection Eggs: A family Easter project
A few Resurrection Egg projects with names, as well as extras, are still available in the atrium. Each day for twelve days, families will add a found item to an egg as listed in the instructions. Use the Scriptures to teach the truths of salvation to family and friends. This kit is a gift from Plugged into Jesus to families with kids ages Pre-K3 – grade 5.

Children’s Ministries Family Day
Families, join your kids in the gym on Sunday, May 8, to experience the Bible together! Games, music, a skit, and snacks are provided! All are welcome to visit and share in the fun. Bring a friend! This will be the last week of Sunday morning Children’s Ministries until fall.

Musikgarten
Parents, grandparents, or anyone with little ones: come and experience music and rhythm with an infant or toddler in your care on Sunday at 9:20 AM. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
We learned that God provided food for his people in the wilderness. The next time your family eats bread and butter, remind each other that Jesus is the Bread of Life and provides all that we need. This week’s lesson is “Waterworks: Water from the Rock.” Bring your friends! Plugged into Jesus meets Sundays at 9:20 AM. Use this link to watch the Bible teaching video. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Spark
What is the difference between a want and a need? Find out this Sunday at 9:30 AM as God shows care for his people. Grades 6 – 8 meet for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

FUEL
FUEL will talk about Holy Week on Sunday. Plus, we will eat donuts!  FUEL is for all St. Andrew high school students. FUEL was 15 strong last week. Let’s keep building this St. Andrew ministry!

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Call
Pastor Phil Janke continues to deliberate the call to serve as our Pastor for Service and Outreach. Pray for him and his family as they determine where they will serve Jesus’ church. There’s no deadline for a decision, but most likely he will have an answer within the next couple weeks.

April Monthly Mission Partner | St. Andrew Mission Trips
God has called us to preach the gospel “to the ends of the earth.” What motivates us to do mission work? God has saved us through the perfect life and death of Jesus Christ. We now have the privilege of sharing that message with others. Short term Mission Trips have been planned to give St. Andrew members the opportunity to go into our neighborhoods and our country and our world. With a God-focused attitude toward mission work, we are able to partner with congregations and community agencies in serving souls God wants to reach. When God calls, “Who can I send?” may your answer be, “Here I am, Lord, send me!”

Spring work day
It is time to clean away the winter debris and make way for a beautiful landscape. On April 30, 8 AM – 12 PM, St. Andrew will be repairing the lawn along the parking lot edges by adding soil and re-seeding, cleaning up around the rock beds, and tidying up the property. If you are interested in digging in and helping out, please contact Aaron Faessler. Rain date is scheduled for May 7, 8 AM – 12 PM.

WELS Connection
St. Andrew is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. One way we stay connected to our synod is through the WELS Connection video. Each month you’ll get the latest news from around our synod. The latest WELS Connection can be viewed by clicking  here.

Lakeside Lutheran High School news
St. Andrew has enjoyed the blessing of Lakeside Federation membership for many years. Three members of the Lakeside faculty are retiring from the ministry at the end of this school year.

  • Mr. James Grasby, who has served as principal at Lakeside for 19 years
  • Mr. James Buege, who has served as choir director and teacher at Lakeside for 28 years
  • Mrs. Ruth Hirschfeld, who has served as director of Lakeside’s extended learning center for 17 years

You are invited to a reception in the Lakeside west gymnasium on Sunday, May 22, at 3:15 PM (or shortly after the 2:00 PM commencement concert). Cards and well-wishes may be sent to:

Missy McKenna
Lakeside Lutheran High School
231 Woodland Beach Road

Please indicate on (or inside) the envelope to whom (Grasby, Buege, or Hirschfeld) your card should be directed.  May God bless these faithful servants as they continue to serve the Lord in their retirement years!

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call updates
Kim Gnewuch has decided to remain here in her call to teach and serve at St. Andrew Lutheran Church and Westside Christian School. She thanks you for your prayers and helpful comments as she prayed and deliberated where she would best be able to serve our Lord with her abilities. Please pray that the work at Redeemer Lutheran School be blessed as they continue to call someone who will use his Word to lead their little children to God’s waiting arms.

Lisa Myhre has been serving as a 1st grade teacher at Westside Christian School this year in a one-year call. She continues to deliberate the call the Voters of St. Andrew extended to her, calling her to another one-year position for the 2022 – 23 school year as a second kindergarten teacher.

Happy anniversary, Westside Christian School!
Did you know that this school year marks the 20th anniversary of Westside Christian School? It is our blessing to serve the Middleton community and surrounding areas by providing a place for children to receive a high-quality, Christian education while helping parents build strong, Christ-centered families. We celebrated with cake and ice cream last week, and each student received a 20th anniversary t-shirt. To God be the glory!
