This Week

Lipstick on a pig
Have you heard the expression, “It’s like putting lipstick on a pig”? It means the solution to the problem might look good, but it doesn’t address the real issue. It’s really no solution at all. Some people have the mistaken notion that being a Christian means doing the right things. The old campfire song, “They’ll know we are Christians by our love,” may be true, but we don’t always act that way. That’s the problem. Being told to “shape up” only makes it worse. It’s like putting lipstick on a pig. God has a different solution. You can read it in Romans 8. Join me in a plan to read Romans 8 every day for a month . . . can’t get enough of the real solution!

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Thank you Havens Petting Farm
What a special day of worship, fun, fellowship, and, of course, the lambs! A big thank you to Havens Petting Farm and especially Ferron and Barb Havens for bringing your lambs to St. Andrew this past Sunday for Good Shepherd Sunday. Ferron and Barb have brought their lambs to St. Andrew for many years to share with us on this special Sunday and we are grateful.

Easter Adult Choir
Keep the Easter joy alive by joining your voice with other brothers and sisters high school age and older. Rehearsals will be Wednesdays, May 1, 8, and 15, at 7 PM, in the Soul Café. The Adult Choir will sing for worship on Sunday, May 19.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow in Grace | Leading Children to Jesus
Are you at that stage of life where you are raising one or more children? Do you have influence over children in your extended family? At our next Grow in Grace, you will hear encouragement, ideas, and strategies to help lead those precious souls closer to Jesus. Parents who are raising children will benefit the most, but this is also for grandparents, aunts, uncles, and more. Grow in Grace is May 12 and 19 from 9:30 – 10:15 AM in the sanctuary.

St. Andrew Summer Camp
Children entering kindergarten – grade 6 are encouraged to attend St. Andrew Summer Camp. This year’s camp will offer art, music, drama, food preparation, and more. Of course, Jesus will be at the center! The dates are July 8 – 11. Registration begins May 1.

Impact
How well do you know Psalm 23? It speaks beautifully about what we celebrated this past Sunday, our Good Shepherd. Pastor Clinton is on Impact this week to discuss these comforting words. You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to the next PowerHour. Join us on Friday, May, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. The theme is “construction.” Click here for more information on PowerHour.

LifeBoat
LifeBoat is the name of a new group for St. Andrew teens. LifeBoat is for grades 7 – 10 and meets the first and third Sunday evenings of every month from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. A typical evening is food, play, and Jesus. For location and more information, contact LifeBoat leaders Jess Bohl or Hilary Griswold.

Sunday children ministries
St. Andrew offers children of all ages the opportunity to learn more about our Savior’s love on Sunday mornings, 9:30 – 10:15. We have two more weeks of Musikgarten (3 & under), Plugged into Jesus (4K – grade 5), Spark (grade 6 – 8), and FUEL (high school). It is never too late to come for the first time!

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Thanks for joining us at Culver’s
Tuesday evening, St. Andrew and Westside families stormed the gates of Middleton Culver’s and enjoyed hamburgers, cheese curds, and custard. Thank you to all who joined us either to eat or to volunteer. Both helped us raise funds for mission trips.

Spring work day May 4
God has blessed St. Andrew with a beautiful and practical property that comes with various opportunities to serve. Saturday, May 4, from 2 – 4 PM, we will be doing some outdoor yard work, including mulching, edging, seeding, and strawing. Contact Steve Veers or Pastor Clinton to be a part of it.

Service opportunity | Brat Fest
St. Andrew will again be a Brat Fest charity this Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers will interact with the community and earn donations for St. Andrew’s mission trips. Opportunities from May 19 to 26 are filled on a first come, first served basis. Unfilled slots are still available, so sign up soon and make sure to choose “St Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church” as the organization you are volunteering for. Contact minimissions@st-andrew-online.org with any questions. Sign up here.

Apply now for summer mission trips
Adult trips are to Brandon, South Dakota, and London, England. Teen trips are to Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Join the team. Spread the gospel. Have lots of fun. Find details and apply here.

LWMS Circuit Rally Convention June 27 – 30
Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society exists to support mission outreach within our church body. The annual LWMS convention is June 27 – 30 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Find more information about the convention and about LWMS at their website.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our April partner is Central Africa Medical Mission. CAMM has been using the constant need for medical attention and expertise as a bridge to the gospel for over 60 years, primarily in Malawi and Zambia. Much more information about CAMM’s past and recent activity is available on their website, or view this video.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call returned
Mr. Karl Kuschel has returned a call to serve in the ministry of Divine Savior Academy in Doral, Florida. May God grant our brothers and sisters in Doral the worker they need for their ministry. And we thank God for Mr. Kuschel’s decision to continue to serve among us.
