This Week

Seeking repentance and offering forgiveness
In the latter part of Matthew 18, Jesus teaches about those who sin against you. It turns out even the church contains sinners! Jesus’ instructions are not intuitive, so let’s gather to hear them and praise the one who gave them. Join us Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Calls pending decision
Hannah Zabel is still deliberating a call to serve as 5th grade teacher at Westside Christian School. She currently serves at Nebraska Lutheran High School in Waco as a dorm supervisor and social studies instructor.

Pastor Andrew Stuebs is still deliberating a call to serve as our Pastor for Outreach. He currently serves at Living Word Lutheran Church in Johnson City, Tennessee.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
This week the stone wall behind the altar will go up. St. Andrew member Duane Ehlke is building a new cross that will hang on the stone wall, and our current sanctuary cross will hang in the new atrium space. Three beautiful windows on each side of the sanctuary provide significant daylight in our new space.

Upcoming move
After our last worship services in our current sanctuary on May 17, comes the first big move of the summer. After worship on May 17 and throughout that entire week we will need to move everything out of the sanctuary, Soul Café, Cry Room, and hallway. Stay tuned for ways you can get involved. If you are interested in helping to lead this effort, please reach out to Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Good Shepherd Sunday
Young, old, and in-between, we are all little lambs of the Good Shepherd. Good Shepherd Sunday is this Sunday, April 26. Join the flock for church-wide fellowship from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. Visit the sheep pen out front, and enjoy food and drink. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

Adult Choir
Join your voice with others as we give thanks for all the blessings God showered upon St. Andrew in our current sanctuary. The Adult Choir will sing for our final services in that space on Sunday, May 17. Rehearsals will be Wednesdays April 29 and May 6 & 13 at 7 PM in the Soul Café. Questions? Contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Milestones
Bentley John Arndt, son of Dan and Sarah, was born last month and born again through baptism last Sunday. May the Holy Spirit equip his parents, godparents, and his St. Andrew family with the tools to ensure that Bentley serves his Savior all his days. Welcome to the family!

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship on Sunday. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Come, Behold the Wondrous Mystery” by Matt Papa, Matt Boswell
As for Me and My House” by Cochren & Co
“The Lord’s My Shepherd” by Tim Bode
Yet Not I but through Christ in Me” by CityAlight

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Good Shepherd Sunday
April 26 is Good Shepherd Sunday at St. Andrew. There will be no Sunday Growth Groups, Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, Spark, or FUEL. Join us instead for the fellowship between services.

Grow in Grace
The Bible doesn’t answer all questions about hell or heaven, but it certainly is not silent on either one. “Hell and Heaven” is our next Grow in Grace. We will spend a week on each topic exploring what God reveals about hell and what God reveals about heaven. Both destinations are real. Both destinations are mysterious. Both destinations are important to know about. Join us in the sanctuary at 9:30 on May 10 and May 17 for Grow in Grace.

40 Weeks with the Word
A new church-wide Bible-reading plan will begin May 6. We will spend 40 Weeks in the Word together. Find more information and sign up with this link. You can also sign up in the atrium. Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad can answer your questions. Remember, spending time in the Word is the last thing Satan wants you to do. That alone makes time in the Word time well spent.

Impact
You might know the story of Rahab. She was the lying prostitute in Joshua 2. You and I are not that different from her. That is what we hear about this week with Pastor Erich Schaser, a Bible teacher from Fox Valley Lutheran High School. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Plugged into Jesus
Thank you to all of the kids who sang so wonderfully in Sunday worship this past weekend. Shout out to the music leaders who had them well prepared. To God be the glory!

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Service opportunity | Brat Fest
You can still sign up to volunteer and help secure donations to St. Andrew. Opportunities are May 19 – 25, and many are still open. It’s a great opportunity for individuals, families, or Growth Groups. Sign up here and then please let Pastor Clinton know your shift.

LWMS Convention coming to Madison
The 63rd Annual Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society Convention is June 25 – 28 in Madison at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. It features workshops, devotions, fellowship, and much more. There will also be many opportunities to serve both before and during; if you are interested in serving, please contact Amanda Taticek. Visit 63.lwms.org for more information about the convention.

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a ministry or initiative. Last month’s video shows a ministry very familiar to some, as Illumine in Rock Hill, South Carolina has been a monthly Mission Partner and teen mission trip destination.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our April partner is Central Africa Medical Mission, a ministry that uses needed medical care as a bridge to the gospel of Jesus, primarily in Zambia and Malawi. Find more information and lots of exciting news about this ministry at camm.us.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Connections
This week Friday, April 24, we have another Connections opportunity for the members of St. Andrew. This is a chance for you to get to know some of the students in the school while playing games with them. If you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Plath by email or phone (612.616.1760).

New administrative assistant hired
Westside Christian School is happy to announce the hiring of a new administrative assistant. Dana Miller will begin her work on Monday, April 27. We are excited to have her in our Westside Christian School community. If you are in the building during school hours, please stop by and introduce yourself.

8th grade graduation
Westside Christian School 8th grade graduation is right around the corner. It is Monday, May 18, at 6:30 PM. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our 8th grade students.
