This Sunday

Jesus triumphs
Throughout Scripture we see God giving and God taking. In the Garden of Eden, God gave the promise of the Savior to Adam and Eve, and he took away their guilt that they brought on themselves. Or consider David. On the one hand, God gave him the role as the king of the Israelites. On the other hand, after the prophet Nathan rebuked him for his sin with Bathsheba, Nathan said, “The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die” (2 Samuel 12:13). There is also a divine giving and taking after the resurrection. This weekend, the apostle John helps us see that Jesus’ triumph over sin, death, and the devil takes away our fear and gives us confidence.

First Group
Have you been curious about Christianity but don’t know much about it? Have you been visiting St. Andrew and want to know about this church and what we believe? Do you know you want to join our family of faith already but don’t know what to do next? Or has it just been a while since you’ve reviewed the Bible from front to back? If any of these questions describe you, First Group is for you. We’ll meet for 12 Sunday mornings, 9:30 – 10:15 AM, beginning Sunday, May 1. Yes, this spans the beginning of summer and maybe your vacation plans, too. Don’t let that stop you. When you can’t be here in person, you can keep up on your own and jump in again when you’re back. To register, please send an email to [email protected]

Grow in Grace
Grow in Grace—whole church Bible study—is returning with a topic that seeks to help with what experts are calling a “mental health crisis.” Join us for a three-part series called Addressing Mental Health. Here is the schedule:

  • May 8—Christian author Bill Woodington will present on his book, Whatever is True: A Christian View of Anxiety.
  • May 15Dr. Phil Huebner from Wisconsin Lutheran High School will talk about his book, Who Am I?: Understanding Your Identity in Christ Through Facts Not Feelings. This book was written specifically for teens, but has relevance for all ages.
  • May 22—The topic is grief and depression and will feature an interview with a WELS pastor talking about his ongoing battle with depression.

Grow in Grace will be from 9:30 – 10:15 AM in the sanctuary.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Holy Week thank you
Thank you to the army of individuals and families that served this Holy Week and enabled St. Andrew to serve nearly 1,800 people on-site and hundreds more online with the message of Christ this Holy Week. Your love for our Savior and community shined this week as we remembered Christ’s suffering and death and celebrated his resurrection! May the joy of Easter encourage and uplift you each day.

Take down the cross
This Sunday, April 24, following 10:30 AM worship, we will be taking down the cross and black curtain in the front of the sanctuary. A few strong bodies to get the curtain onto the storage shelves would be greatly appreciated. If you are willing to serve in this way, contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

8 AM Communion Care
There is an opportunity to serve on the 8 AM Communion Care team. This team arrives at church 30 – 45 minutes before the 8 AM service about once a month to set up the bread and wine for Communion. Following 8 AM church, this team then resets for the 10:30 AM service. This is a great and important way for an individual or a family to serve. If you would like more information, contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Spring work day
It is time to clean away the winter debris and make way for a beautiful landscape. On Saturday, April 30, 8 AM – 12 PM, St. Andrew will be tidying up the property, repairing the lawn along the parking lot edges by adding soil and re-seeding, and cleaning up around the rock beds. If you are interested in digging in and helping out, please contact Aaron Faessler. The rain date is scheduled for May 7, 8 AM – 12 PM.

April Monthly Mission Partner | St. Andrew Mission Trips
God has called us to preach the gospel “to the ends of the earth.” What motivates us to do mission work? God has saved us through the perfect life and death of Jesus Christ. We now have the privilege of sharing that message with others. Short term Mission Trips have been planned to give St. Andrew members the opportunity to go into our neighborhoods and our country and our world. With a God-focused attitude toward mission work, we are able to partner with congregations and community agencies in serving souls God wants to reach. When God calls, “Who can I send?” may your answer be, “Here I am, Lord, send me!”

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call Returned
Mrs. Lisa Myhre has returned the call to teach kindergarten at Westside Christian School for the 2022 – 2023 school year. We extend God’s blessings to her as she completes this school year. Her letter to the congregation is included below.

We will submit a request for a graduate from Martin Luther College and are working with the Commission on Lutheran Schools to determine if there are other candidates in our area. We know that the Lord will provide us with the person he intends to join us in this ministry.

Dear members of St. Andrew and families of Westside Christian School,

I am writing, first and foremost, to thank you for the amazing welcome and support you have given me in my first year at Westside, and I also want to thank you to all who have reached out with prayers, support, and words of encouragement as I have been deliberating the Lord’s divine call to serve as a kindergarten teacher here next year.

To say that the ministry at St. Andrew and Westside has grown near and dear to my heart is an understatement, and the kindergarten position would be a wonderful fit for me at this point in my ministry. However, many of you whom I’ve had the privilege to talk to know that my current call here at Westside has put some added strain on my family, which has made this deliberation one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.

After much prayerful thought and consideration (and some tears), God has led me to return the call to serve as a kindergarten teacher next year. I will continue to keep St. Andrew and Westside Christian in my prayers as God guides you to find the next shepherd to watch over his little lambs alongside Karen Hong. We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, and that is most certainly evident here at St. Andrew and Westside! God’s richest blessings to you all.

Your sister in Christ,
Lisa Myhre
