This Week

Pessimism—Optimism
Are you a “glass half full” or a “glass half empty” kind of person? Most of us are a little of both. If you find yourself in a pickup basketball game with Caitlin Clark, you might be pessimistic about the outcome. But if you plan a night out at your favorite restaurant, you might be optimistic about how much you’ll enjoy it. The apostle Paul, in Romans 7, was inspired by the Holy Spirit to paint a pessimistic picture about our human nature. And he was inspired to paint an optimistic picture. The key is moving from one to the other. Read Romans 7 and gather with God’s people to feast together on the great gospel our Savior sets before us. The feast is served on Thursday at 7:00 PM and on Sunday at 8:00 and 10:30 AM. You can be optimistic about the outcome.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Good Shepherd Sunday
Jesus is your Good Shepherd, and he is on duty in all kinds of weather. We will do the same for our Good Shepherd Sunday celebration: If it’s too cold for the sheep, we will move them into the gym. Come for live sheep to pet, a family activity to teach children about their Good Shepherd, games (sheepshead anyone?), and food and drink fit for a shepherd. Join us from 9:00 – 10:15 AM.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Easter Adult Choir
Keep the Easter joy alive by joining your voice with other brothers and sisters high school age and older. Rehearsals will be Wednesdays, May 1, 8, and 15, at 7 PM, in the Soul Café. The Adult Choir will sing for worship on Sunday, May 19.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow in Grace | Leading Children to Jesus
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” There is much love in that command. Jesus wants all children to learn and keep learning about his love. We all have a role in that. At the upcoming Grow in Grace, you will hear encouragement and ideas to help you lead children to Jesus. Grow in Grace is May 12 and 19 from 9:30 – 10:15 in the sanctuary.

LifeBoat
LifeBoat is the name of a new group for St. Andrew teens. LifeBoat is for grades 7 – 10 and meets the first and third Sunday evenings of every month from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Lifeboat is for faith, fellowship, and fun! For location and more information, contact LifeBoat leaders Jess Bohl or Hilary Griswold.

Impact
With Good Shepherd Sunday approaching, Pastor Clinton is here to give insight into one of Scripture’s most treasured sections—Psalm 23. You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to the next PowerHour. Join us on Friday, April 19, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. The theme is “April showers bring May flowers.” Click here for more information on PowerHour.

Sunday children ministries
Good Shepherd Sunday is April 21. Lots to do for children (and adults) between services. There will be no Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, Spark, or FUEL. All will return April 28.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Join us at Middleton Culver’s April 23, 5 – 8 PM
Culver’s Share Night is an opportunity to raise mission trip funds. Serve by coming for dinner and being a patron. Serve by helping the Culver’s staff work. Or both! Patrons must be hungry. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and can work any number of one-hour segments from 5 – 8 PM. Sign up here.

Service opportunity | Brat Fest
St. Andrew will again be a Brat Fest charity this Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers will interact with the community and earn donations for St. Andrew’s mission trips. Opportunities from May 19 – 26 are filled on a first come, first served basis. Unfilled slots are still available, so sign up soon and make sure to choose “St Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church” as the organization you are volunteering for. Contact minimissions@st-andrew-online.org with any questions. Sign up here.

Summer mission trips
Two new trips are sure to be a lot of fun and provide great opportunities to serve. Join the team headed to Rock Hill, South Carolina, July 13 – 18, or the team headed to Cincinnati, Ohio, July 23 – 28. Apply here by the end of the month.

The London dates are set for July 5 – 15. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Pastor Clinton.

LWMS Capitol Circuit Spring Rally
Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society is women dedicated to serving Jesus by increasing awareness of, interest in, and support of the mission outreach of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. The next local rally is at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Madison. Professor Emeritus Kermit Moldenhauer will present on WELS missions in London. Registration begins at 8:30 AM on Saturday, April 20.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our April partner is Central Africa Medical Mission. CAMM has been using the constant need for medical attention and expertise as a bridge to the gospel for over 60 years, primarily in Malawi and Zambia. Much more information about CAMM’s past and recent activity is available on their website or view the video below.
