This Week

New Series | 1 & 2 Thessalonians
Two distinct elements can combine to create something wonderful. Hershey did that with peanut butter and chocolate; the result is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The Lord did that with a man and a woman; the result is marriage. This weekend we combine two distinct elements: the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection and the beginning of a new study of Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians. The result, should the Spirit grant it, is growth in Christian faith and life. Is that what you seek? We’d love to help you. Read 1 Thessalonians 1, look for the difference Easter made for the Christians in Thessalonica, and gather with your fellow saints to savor and give thanks for the difference it makes in us. See you in church.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

A church of servants
Holy week saw about 1,800 total worshipers on-site at St. Andrew, in addition to hundreds online. They could not have been served the way they were with only a handful of regular staff. Volunteers made these worship services not only possible, but beautiful, by decorating, rearranging, assembling worship folders, singing or playing an instrument, running the A/V booth, ushering, greeting, cooking, serving food, cleaning, and countless other unseen tasks. Thank you to all who gave up their time, hands, minds, and dollars to demonstrate their love for Jesus, who, because of his great love, died and rose for us. To God be the glory!

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow through Your Grief
Death is a certainty in life, but that makes it no less painful or difficult to deal with when someone you love dies. Have you lost a loved one? Do you struggle with God’s plan for your life now that your future looks different than you planned? If you can relate, join us for a time of fellowship and remembrance at St. Andrew on April 29 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Connect with fellow believers who understand what you are going through. Receive comfort from God’s Word and each other, and grow through your grief for the days ahead.

Lunch will be served. Please register here by Wednesday, April 26.

Small Talk
Small Talk is a St. Andrew podcast where children share the good news about Jesus. Listen to this all-new Holy Week episode with Solomon. He helps us understand why Jesus died on the cross and what it means that Jesus is alive! Small Talk is available here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Small Talk Kamin.”

Impact
The risen Jesus had a fascinating encounter with two of his disciples on the first Easter. It was on a road linking Jerusalem and the village of Emmaus. Listen to Pastor Nate Wordell from Wisconsin Lutheran College this week and next discuss this true account. You can find our St. Andrew podcast Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
It’s been a while, but PowerHour will return soon. Join us for Construction Day on April 21. For more on PowerHour, click here.

Sunday morning children’s ministries
Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, and Spark are all thriving, and we want your child involved! Musikgarten (3 and under) and Plugged into Jesus (4K – grade 5) welcome children beginning at 9:20 AM, and Spark (grades 6 – 8) begins at 9:25 AM. This week, the Bible lesson in Spark and Plugged into Jesus is called “The Rescuing Queen.” The Bible verse for the lesson is from Psalm 32: “You preserve me from trouble.” What a valuable lesson to learn!

FUEL
This Sunday morning Growth Group is for high school students. It gives them a chance to ask questions, receive much-needed encouragement, and learn from God’s powerful Word. The reasons not to go don’t stack up to the reasons to go. FUEL meets at 9:25 in room 114.

Call update
We are excited to announce that Elicia Shepard has accepted our call to fill the new 1st grade teacher position beginning with the 2023-24 school year! Her letter is below.

To the Members of St. Andrew and Westside Christian School,

After careful deliberation and extensive prayer I am very excited to announce that I am accepting the call to teach at Westside Christian School as a first grade teacher. What a blessing it has been to receive this call and deliberate where I can best serve the Lord at this time. I am so thrilled to be able to share the love of the Lord with students at Westside. Thank you for praying alongside me as I took the time to thoughtfully consider where I could best serve.

In Him,
Elicia Shepard
