This Week

Impossible dependence
Last week, we heard how Jesus upheld little children as an example. God’s people continue to grow in faith and rely on their Father in heaven. Now, in Matthew 19:16-30, we see Jesus further question human’s dependency. Specifically, where can we turn to accomplish the impossible? Worship with us Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Call deliberation
Pastor Doug Van Sice and his family are considering the next phase of ministry, whether continuing at Huntersville Lutheran Church near Charlotte or joining the ministry of St. Andrew as Pastor for Outreach. Keep the Van Sices in your prayers.

Karen Hong retirement party
Mrs. Karen Hong, Westside Christian School’s kindergarten teacher, is retiring after dedicating 44 years to ministry, 25 of them at Westside Christian School. She will be recognized during this weekend’s worship services. Also join us to celebrate with Karen after 10:30 worship on Sunday, June 14. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. A box for gifts and cards is in the atrium.

Celebration Sunday and voters’ meeting
Join us at 9:30 AM on Sunday, June 21, to celebrate the ministry our God has done among us and through us. We will review the previous year and preview the blessings we are asking of our God in the coming year.

The following week, at 11:45 AM on June 28, in our annual voters’ meeting, we will vote to approve the comprehensive ministry plan and budget (CMPB) the leaders of St. Andrew have developed. In addition to several larger items we believe our Lord is calling us toward, the CMPB includes many details that commit to action and/or monetary expenditures. Another agenda item at the meeting is electing new members of the Board of Directors, as they serve two-year terms.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Last week for sanctuary floor signing
The time has finally come! Twenty-five years ago when the sanctuary was built, members wrote their favorite Bible passages on the floor so that as we worshiped each week, we were literally standing on the Word of God. Five years ago, those verses were uncovered and we added many more during renovations. On Thursday and Sunday, we will once again open the new sanctuary for about 15 – 20 minutes after each service so that those who wish to add their favorite Bible passage to the new floor can do so. You won’t be able to see the entire new building, but you will get a sneak peek of our new sanctuary! We will have Bibles and markers available.

Construction update
Steel beams went into the new classrooms this week. You can now see the four rooms and the hallway that ends in another set of entrance doors. These classrooms will come together very quickly!

Naming contest for the new building
This is your last chance to submit a name for our volunteer lounge that will house the coffee machines, serve as the hospitality area, and offer a place for anyone to sit, work, or hang out. We’ve already received some great ideas.

But put on your creative thinking caps and help us also name what is currently called the multipurpose room. This room will be used in many ways, including adult education, Grow in Grace, Growth Groups, and housing the church library. Next week we will start taking names for this room as well, but you will only have ONE week to submit your ideas. Voting for this room will begin June 24.

A Place of Peace giving
What a blessing to be just a few months away from occupying and utilizing the new spaces, thanks to God’s work through so many contributors who allowed us to exceed our campaign goal of $7,500,000. If you’re new to this and would like to contribute, go to st-andrew-online.org, click “Give” at the top of the page, and use “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund” or memo line. You can also place your contribution in a St. Andrew offering envelope and check “Ministry Expansion.” Contact Financial Administrator Ron Kerr with further questions.

We all have a lot of stuff that we don’t need anymore. Here’s a chance to take that stuff and swap it for stuff you do need. Our Moms’ Growth Group is having a Kids and Family Stuff Swap on Saturday, June 27, from 9 AM – 12 PM at St. Andrew. Signs in the atrium provide more details. The best part? There will be a free will donation benefiting Care Net Pregnancy Center of Dane County. The second best part? Coffee and bagels will be available while you swap.

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a ministry or initiative. Last month’s video explains our seminary’s formal continuing education program.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our June partner is Time of Grace Ministry. Time of Grace uses a variety of media to tackle topics Christians need to talk about but often don’t and to encourage people to love everyone God made and everything God wrote in the Bible. View more information at timeofgrace.org.
