This Sunday
But I’m a citizen
U.S. Embassies are positioned in most other countries around the world. They must have many functions, but one of their main duties is to support and assist U.S. travelers. If you lose your passport, get injured, or are wrongfully accused, you get to pull a “But I’m a U.S. citizen” card. It doesn’t make the problem go away, but it does afford you a level of assistance not available to everyone. If you’re in need, you’d certainly use it. In Acts 22:22-29, the apostle Paul was in need, and his Roman citizenship came to the rescue. Read the story and ponder the question, “What has God given me that I can use where I am to do what I can for his purpose?” Then seek answers together with your brothers and sisters in Christ on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8:00 AM or 10:30 AM.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Livestream team
Have you recently worshiped online? Thanks to our videographers, each week our service is livestreamed at 10:30 AM so that others can still worship if they are unable to make it to the building for services. If you have an interest in media or technology, consider serving on this team. The skills and programs can certainly be taught. For more information, reach out to team lead Dan Wasmer or Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.
Milestones
Brooks Michael Manzeck received the goal of our faith last Wednesday, July 13. Brooks spent three of his four years and two months on earth battling cancer; but ever since three weeks after his birth he lived in baptismal grace. Now he lives eternally with the Savior who provided it. Kelly and Chris and big brother Grayson celebrate the gift Brooks was to them and God’s gifts to him, and they find comfort in the resurrection and reunion to come. We’ll do that together this Sunday, July 24, at St. Andrew. You may call on the family during a time of visitation from 1:30 – 3:30 PM and celebrate the life Brooks now enjoys in a Christian funeral service at 3:30 PM. Thank you to the many St. Andrew brothers and sisters who will serve the family in a variety of ways on Sunday. Your loving acts of service illustrate what it is to be family in Christ.
Isaac John Otto was born on June 16. Although John and Christi were given a scare that he would potentially have a heart problem, as the Lord willed it, he had no trace of a heart problem. We praise God for his life, and this weekend we will praise him for a different and never-ending life he grants through the miraculous mystery of Holy Baptism.
Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Grow in Grace
That rainbow you see after a rain shower is a reason to rejoice in the faithfulness of God. We learn what the rainbow means to Christians in the aftermath of the flood. Let’s Talk about the Rainbow is our next series for Grow in Grace. This 4-week whole church Bible study leads up to the promise God gave after the flood. Let’s Talk about the Flood begins August 7 at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary.
Week 1 | The reason for the flood
Week 2 | The ark and its contents
Week 3 | The flood (with special guest Mr. Mark Bergemann, President of Lutheran Science Institute)
Week 4 | God’s promise to never again use water to destroy the earth
Impact
There is stern warning and glorious comfort in the final chapter of the final book of the Old Testament. Listen to Professor Paul Koelpin of Martin Luther College explain the details of this fascinating chapter that looks ahead to the coming of Christ. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Call
Pray for Pastor Nathan Wordell and Rachel as they determine where they will use their gifts for God’s purposes: in his current call at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton or as our Pastor for Service and Outreach.
July Monthly Mission Partner
This month we support with our offerings and prayers the Hmong Outreach in Vietnam. In 2011 the Hmong Fellowship Church invited the WELS into Vietnam to help train their church leaders in the teachings of the Bible. Since that time, the Christian Church in Vietnam has grown by God’s grace. The communist government noticed the positive changes and in 2018 invited the WELS to build a theological education center in the capital of Hanoi. We thank God for opening doors to spread the gospel in Vietnam. To learn more about this mission, visit the WELS website.

Ministry Support
Gifted for pulling or spraying weeds?
We all have our gifts, right? That’s biblical. And although the Bible doesn’t say anything about pulling weeds or spraying weed killer, such work does present our ministry in the best light. Your field of labor would be the rock islands in the parking lot, the sidewalks, and the stone border around the building. We’ll supply all you need. If this sounds like your thing, you can help by contacting Steve Veers.
Building Repairs
Do you have gifts or interests in any of the following areas? It’s time to spruce up the inside of the building before another school year begins, and there are lots of opportunities to get involved:
- Painting—lots and lots of painting!
- Drywalling in all the bathrooms
- Minor wall repair in a few areas around the building
To get involved, email Amy Hutter or call the church office at (608)831-8540. We are hoping to have all this work completed by August 17. |
